The DSP role is the most important job at Abilities LLC — full stop. Our entire residential program is built on the people who show up, shift after shift, to support the individuals we serve. Without strong DSPs, none of the rest works.

When we support our employees well, they support our individuals well. That's the whole equation.

That's why our compensation, benefits, training, and recognition programs are designed around frontline care first. Higher pay for certifications, free primary care for the household, an annual $10,000 attendance bonus pool, paid training in everything from MANDT to RBT — these aren't perks. They're the agency keeping its end of the deal.

If you're a DSP, you're not the bottom of the org chart here. You're the foundation it stands on.

Recognition isn't an afterthought — it's a system. We use WorkTango, a peer-recognition platform that gives every employee 500 points each month to recognize coworkers. Supervisors are required to recognize at least four employees a month.

How we celebrate the team

  • Anniversary and birthday recognition — automated through WorkTango, with public posts on every employee's actual work anniversary
  • Monthly staff giveaways coordinated by the Director of Culture and Experience
  • DSP Appreciation Week the first week of September — custom shirts, daily social posts, and recognition that reaches every shift and location
  • Christmas Party — the year-end celebration where the annual attendance bonus pool is paid out
  • Employee Appreciation Day — agency-wide event for staff, families, and the individuals we serve
  • In-person recognition rounds — the Director of Culture and Experience visits every ISL location at least four times a month, specifically to deliver recognition face-to-face
Every event is accessible to all staff across all shifts and all locations. No employee is excluded from agency recognition because of their shift.

Our Culture

Three values, lived out loud.

Integrity

Honest, ethical practice in everything we do — and in how we treat each other when no one's watching.

Community

Belonging matters. We work to integrate, include, and connect — across every shift and every location.

Empathy

Listen first. Respond without judgment. Recognize that everyone you work alongside is carrying something you may not see.
